A Murder suspect arraigned in a Mombasa court has pleaded guilty to murder charges in a case where he was accused of killing his wife.

Appearing before Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku, the suspect Evans Katuti stated that the fight between him and his late wife ensued on February 26,2023 after he caught her with another man in their home.

“I went home at around 11pm after watching the Carabao Cup final between Manchester United and Newcastle United. I had watched the match in a bar near my house. Upon arriving home, I was shocked to find my wife, Anna Kambua, with another man in our matrimonial bed,” said Katuti.

Katuti further claimed that it’s during the fracas the wife grabbed and squeezed his testicles painfully and as such made him search for the kitchen knife and stab her twice in the abdomen.

“My wife grabbed my testicles and squeezed them painfully. In reflex reaction, I reached out for a kitchen knife and stabbed her twice in the abdomen,” Katuti told the court.

According to a police report presented to court, the accused surrendered himself to the Mtito Andei Police Station before he was transferred to Changamwe where the incident had taken place and later on charged with murder  which he pleaded guilty to.

However, the Director of Public Prosecution in their submission has the murder charge changed to manslaughter accusation arguing that there was insufficient evidence over the same.
