Police To Punish Officers Conned In Fake Promotion Deals

SCP Fred Enanga

Uganda police has commenced investigations into an unknown person who has been conning police officers promising them fake promotion deals.

According to Uganda Police Spokesperson SCP Enanga Fred, the said scammer pose as an important figure at the police headquarters and asks money ranging from Ush500,000 – 600,000 from officers via phone calls promising them higher ranks.

“There is no rank sold to the police. Every rank given to a policeman is earned according to their service, professionalism, education, discipline among others,” Enanga said.

The scammer uses phone number 0761987638 and identifies himself as Ronald Mushe, a Senior Superintendent of Police working under the human resource department at police headquarters. Enanga wondered how the scammer accessed the highly confidential information about the police officers that he used to contact them.

“We are going to investigate the matter using the number conning the officers and try to arrest the person behind the act. This will help us get to the bottom of the case because this person uses records and information kept in a confidential file,” he said.

Enanga strongly condemned the act and noted that all policemen who have fallen victims of these scams are to face disciplinary action for trying to buy their way into higher ranks, something that is against the law.

‘All the DPCs and RPCs who have been conned by this unknown man into paying money for higher ranks are to be arrested and charged in police courts because it is indiscipline,’ he noted.
