12-Year-Old Girl Set on Fire Over Father’s Failure To Clear Debt.
Fear and sorrow gripped residents of Gomba as they laid to rest a 12-year-old girl who was burned beyond recognition over father’s failure to pay his debtors.
It is reported that two months back, a yet to be identified heartless man grabbed the deceased identified as Nanteza Annet and set her on fire as revenge against her father who had failed to raise Ush15,000 to clear his debt.
Nanteza was rushed to Kiruddu Referral Hospital in Makindye, Kampala for medical attention and for all the time she was admitted, well-wishers footed the bills because the mother could barely afford them.
According to the doctors that attended to Nanteza, she needed a super-specialized plastic surgery to help gain her life back since skin donation is illegal in Uganda. This family had called upon the members of the public to help fundraise money to take her to a good hospital outside Uganda for a proper skin transplant and care.
As the money was being solicited, Nanteza underwent another successful surgery at Kiruddu Referral Hospital but unfortunately passed on due to post operation adverse events in the night. The body of the toddler was laid to rest in her ancestral home in Gomba amidst loud cries and frustration.
The suspect is currently under detention in Mpigi and the mother of the deceased cannot afford lawyer fees to help push her case and demand justice for her daughter.
Nantezza will always be celebrated on 31st March under the campaign #313nantezaAnnetDay which will be championed by one Dr. Mirembe Joel. On this day, they hope to do activities to prevent abuse of the vulnerable, uplift the social economic status of the vulnerable communities, promote unity, togetherness and love for one another.
