1 year and four months old Baby Noor who had fever, cough symptoms and breathing fast  was  admitted on March 3, 2023 Kerugoya County Referral Hospital over severe pneumonia for the fourth time since birth.

“On examination, the baby was diagnosed with severe pneumonia with delayed milestones and admitted in Ward 11 acute room with treatment commencing immediately,” CEC for Medical Services, Public Health and Sanitation George Karoki stated.

“This was the 4th admission since the baby was born, the first being at the Newborn unit for birth asphyxia, the second and third being for pneumonia and gastroenteritis respectively.”

In an unclear turn of events, Noor had his fingers cut off  weeks after his admission.

The baby is reported to have developed swelling and bluish discolouration on tips of  his right hand finger prompting the disarticulation to prevent further spread.

The surgery was done with the consent of parents as Karoki reports.

Kirinyaga County Department of Health has since  launched an investigation to establish the cause of the surgery.

The baby is still admitted as the CEC for Medical Services reports he is getting better.
