Lightning Kills 5 Family Members In Four Days
Residents in Keita Village, Rukungiri District are mourning the death of two people from the same family who were struck dead by lightning.
The dead are identified as 75 year old Baryakabuza Jolly and her son Enoch Tukwasiibwe, 30. The family members died at around 7PM during a heavy downpour that started at 3PM on the evening of Wednesday.
Byarugaba Enock, the LC1 chairperson noted that Baryakuz was in the kitchen preparing supper and Tukwasiibwe in the main house when lightning struck, killing them on spot.
The unfortunate event comes just four days after 38 year old carpenter Ambrose Kanunu together with his two sons Justus Asiimwe, 7 and Arnold Habomugisha, 5 were struck dead on Sunday evening in neighboring district, Rubanda.
According to their mother Gloria Uwimana, she was preparing lunch in the kitchen when it started to rain heavily. Her husband and children rushed to the house and after a short time, the lighting struck and she heard her children screaming. Ambrose died in his bed and the children in the sitting room.
According to Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region police spokesperson, the area is prone to lightning.
