Harambee Stars To Face Iran In An International Friendly Match
Kenya National Team Harambee Stars will play against Iran in an international friendly match on March 28, 2023, in Tehran.
The much awaited duel will be the first international engagement for Harambee stars nearly two years after its suspension by the FIFA.
Kenya was originally scheduled to play Burundi in Nairobi but a last-minute decision by Burundi to play Indonesia in Jakarta necessitated the change to Iran whom Kenya had planned to play later on the in the year.
Iran is ranked 24th in the FIFA Men’s World Ranking and featured in the just concluded 2022 World cup while Kenya are ranked 104.
Stars Head Coach Engin Firat said Iran contest will provide a good test for his boys
“Iran is a world-class team, ranked #1 in Asia. Playing a tough opponent is a chance to push our players to the maximum, to make them familiar with high-level football and show the difference between where we are and where want to be. Playing against world-class teams frequently will help us to be ready at the important moment when we play world cup qualifiers. We can play weaker teams and get easy victories but this will not help us at the important moment.” Said Firat
The players will enter camp on the 17th of March. The team will travel to Tehran on 26th March.
