Three People Arrested Over Match-Fixing Syndicate In Kenyan Football
Police have arrested three people, including a Russian, suspected of manipulating football matches in Kenyan leagues.
The three were arrested on Saturday after a tip off from a Kenyan player who had been contacted by the suspects to help them manipulate the match against Nairobi city stars and Sofapaka.
The arrest comes weeks after FKF intensify their call to end match fixing syndicate in Kenya matches.
It has also come at at time when Kenya’s leagues face greater scrutiny over match-fixing and player corruption in competitions sanctioned by the Football Kenya Federation (FKF).
”The federation wishes to thank the police and a section of FKF PL players who assisted in the arrest and detention of three individuals, amongst them a Kenyan and two foreigners involved in issuing bribes and match fixing. FKF continues to work closely with all involved, including local and international security” Said Barry Otieno, FKF CEO.
The three individuals will be arraigned in court on today.
Last month, two players from the Nairobi-based Mathare United , Lennox Ogutu and Alphonce Ndonye, were barred from taking part in any football-related activities until investigations into their suspected involvement in the match-fixing syndicate were completed.
