Two Dead After Training Plane Crashes During Forced Landing in Kajiado

A preliminary investigation indicates that heavy morning mist and low visibility triggered a fatal training aircraft crash in the Kipeto area of Kajiado County on Friday, September 18, 2026.

According to Kajiado West Police Commander Maureen Kuto, the small trainer aircraft—carrying a flight instructor and a student—was conducting a routine training flight near a local wind power station when it encountered dense mist. In an effort to navigate the sudden loss of visual references, the pilot attempted a forced crash landing on an open field.

The emergency landing attempt resulted in a heavy impact that tore the airframe apart, scattering metal plating, personal belongings, and equipment across the terrain.

The student pilot died at the crash site. The flight instructor sustained critical injuries and passed away while emergency teams were transporting them to Kajiado Referral Hospital. Security forces and emergency responders established a perimeter around the wreckage to secure the area and allow aviation safety officers to begin collecting evidence to determine the exact sequence of events.
