Kenya Met Forecasts 5 Days of Rain and Chilly Spells Across Nairobi, Coastal Counties

The Kenya Meteorological Service (KMS) has issued a five-day weather advisory forecasting light to moderate rainfall and intermittent cold spells across several parts of the country from Sunday, September 20, to Thursday, September 24, 2026.

Regional Rainfall Expectations

  • Central Highlands & Nairobi: Capital residents in Nairobi, along with neighbouring Kiambu, Murang’a, and Nyeri, are expected to experience light morning rains from Sunday through Tuesday, followed by light afternoon showers and intermittent sunny intervals later in the week. Embu will see more persistent wet weather, including moderate showers on Monday.

  • Coastal Strip: Moderate showers are forecast for Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, and Lamu starting Sunday morning, before gradually easing into lighter, sporadic showers through Thursday.

  • Eastern Lowlands: Kitui and Machakos are scheduled to receive light morning rains from Sunday to Tuesday.

  • Western & Rift Valley: Counties including Nakuru, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Bungoma, and Kisii are expected to record scattered light-to-moderate showers, particularly during the afternoons and evenings.

Temperature & Cold Advisory

The weatherman also warned of recurring cold and cloudy conditions across Nairobi, Kajiado, Kiambu, Murang’a, Nyeri, Nyandarua, Wajir, and Garissa.

Nyandarua is set to record the country’s lowest night temperatures, dropping to 5°C on Monday and hovering around 6°C through Thursday. Nighttime temperatures in Nairobi and Kiambu will remain chilly, ranging between 13°C and 15°C throughout the period.
