EACC To Conduct Lifestyle Audits for Kisumu County Staff

Kisumu County government staff are readying scrutiny from Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) which is set to carry out lifestyle audits for the county officials.
This comes hot on the heels of the probe on county books where tens of millions of shillings have been looted in form of imprests. The anti-graft agency said they collected crucial documents and was actively investigating the cases.
According to EACC Western Regional Manager Abraham Kemboi the probe would see a lifestyle audit conducted on all the suspects to trace the money and bring the culprits to book.
“We have a number of cases that we are under investigation not just here in Kisumu but also in Vihiga and Siaya counties. This lifestyle audit shall also be extended to these areas,” he said.
EACC adds that they are investigating cases where public land and government houses in the three counties have been taken by individuals and they are targeting acres of Kenya Railways land and houses belonging to the Ministry of Housing and other state agencies.
“We have made good progress with the investigations and soon we shall issue a comprehensive report,” he said.
He also said that over the next two weeks, EACC officers from the corruption prevention unit in Kisumu would examine the devolved units’ processes and procedures and make suggestions to close corruption loopholes.
He explained that the gathering was a follow-up to the 2018 report, which found several flaws in the procedures for the county executive and county assembly.
“Our being here today is to look at how far the county has gone in implementing the recommendations we presented to them in 2018,” he said.
