Kisumu Polytechnic Students Boycott Classes Over Fee Increment

Drama and chaos was witnessed on Monday morning at Kisumu National Polytechnic after  students converged at the polytechnic gate and  barricaded it with stones preventing any  movement of vehicles in and outside the institution.

The situation worsened forcing the institution to call the law enforcers to engage the students leadership on the best way to solve the matter. Police later engaged the administration as they tried to bring the situation in order.

One of the protesting student said the demo was necessitated by the principal’s action  of closing down school hostels and banning  giving out school bus to ferry students to burials incase of students death.

According to the Institutions’ Principal  Ms. Catherine Kalonye, hostels were closed two years ago claiming that the strike is a result of exam fever.

“I spoke to the students yesterday, all their representatives were present only for students to decline exams today,” she said.

The principal accused former students of inciting students to go on strike.

“I saw some who had completed their courses, they’re among those chanting outside there,” she said
