Police Investigate Kidnap Of 5 Year Old Captured On CCTV
Nabweru Police together with the Territorial Police in Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) North are investigating the disappearance and alleged kidnap of Nansamba Zahara, a five year old resident of Nabweru and a pupil of Nabweru Community Nursery and Primary School.
The kidnap is said to have happened on the 17th February 2023 at around 7:20PM at their home in Nabweu North 1, Nansana Division in Wakiso District.
According to the father of the missing child, Muwonge Baker (32), at around 6:30PM, the mother Nankya Sophia had left the victim at home with her siblings aged 7 and 2 as she went to the nearby shop to buy snacks. When she returned after 30 minutes, she noticed her daughter was missing and reported to the neighbours who issued an immediate search.
The matter was quickly reported to Nabweru Police and when the CCTV in the area was reviewed, the victim was seen moving with an unknown woman along the Nabweru Bwaise stretch.
‘We strongly believe the victim is still in the areas of Nabweru, Nansana, Bwaise, Katooke and Kawempe. We also call upon anyone who is hiding or keeping the victim to hand her over in good faith” SCP Fred Enanga said.
The disappearance is among the many cases of kidnap registered at police and it is evident how children are still vulnerable and under threat.
“Right now, we cannot imagine what the victim is going through, but we would like to reassure the parents that we are doing everything within our means to trace and recover the victim” Enanga said.
