Man Pleads Guilty To Murdering Two People And Dumping Bodies In A Trench.
Isaac Ssenabulya, one of the seven people accused of killing Maria Nagirinya together with her driver Ronald Kitayimbwa, has pleaded guilty to the murder charges.
While presenting evidence pinning Isaac to the crime before the court, state prosecutor Jonathan Mugwanya stated that Nagirinya and her friend, Jane Ndibaasa visited their sick friend, Sylvia Nakayenga and at around 10PM, the deceased called her driver, Ronald to take them back home since it was late.
They headed home after dropping off Jane in Nsambya, and while they waited for the home gate to be opened, they were ambushed by a gang who were carrying toy guns at 11PM. They confined them in a Toyota Spacio car registration number UBA 5070B, driving off to Mukono District.
“The accused person A8 Isaac Ssenabulya was among the assailants who drove the victim’s vehicle as the others remained using motor cycles. The group drove up to a place in Mukono…first removed Kitayimbwa from the car, beat him several times using logs on his head and other parts of the body and killed him instantly,” Mugwanya said.
He further told the court how they pulled Nagrinya out of the car and used a car jerk to hit her on the head multiple times until she died. They forced the victims to disclose their security pins before killing them and after the crime; they withdrew money from their mobile money accounts the next day.
Isaac alias Kinusu on Monday stood before court accepting the charges and admitted to the evidence pinned against him.
“Everything said is true and I would like to apologize to the families of the deceased.” He told the court.
We recall, on Thursday 28th August, 2019, a gang abducted Maria, a former employee of Community Integrated Development Initiative in Busega Lungujja at her gate together with her driver.
During the police search, the deceased’s car was located in Natete before discovering their bodies that were dumped in a trench off Kayunga Road, six kilometers from Mukono Town two days later.
As he pleaded for mercy, Isaac begged court to give him a fair judgment because the life behind bars for the last two years has taught him a lesson.
“For the time I was in Luzira, a lot of things have happened that have changed my life and personally I’m haunted by the crime. I appeal for a fair sentence.” Isaac said.
Prosecution is seeking a death penalty as they believe it is the maximum sentence that is equivalent with the gravity of the offenses committed.
“You are dealing with a double murder of two innocent human beings. We plead for the sentence that should serve as a lesson to the convict and other potential offenders in the category.” Mugwanya said.
Father to the deceased, Anthony Lubowa was among the witnesses presented to the court, broke down as he narrated how the death of his daughter left a huge gap in his life.
Isaac Ssenabulya will receive his sentence on 22nd, Wednesday 2023.
