‘Parent’ In Dilemma Following Child’s Far Placement

Verah Adhiambo Odhiambo, last year KCPE candidate who scored 400 marks

Enriqah Anyango Odhiambo sister to Verah Adhiambo Odhiambo who was a candidate in the last KCPE exam, is currently in dilemma with no clear path to follow.

Verah did her KCPE at Rapogi Girls Primary school in Migori County and scored 400 marks which earned her a placement at Kisumu Girls High School.

Unfortunately, Enriqa states that her sister has a rare leg condition, which requires her to be close to where she is for easy monitoring.

The leg that has been taken through numerous scans in hospitals, indicated no disease as doctors could not find any problem. She however states that there are times her sister feels pain to an extent that she cannot walk forcing her to monitor her from home.

Enriqa who works in Nairobi, therefore finds it hard to admit her sister to Kisumu Girls High school as getting fare to visit and monitor her will be difficult.

Additionally, Kisumu being far, she might have to seek for permission for days off which she fears might see her lose her job.

She has therefore been currently seeking for a transfer in any of the National schools in Nairobi, but notes finding it hard in her quest. She says that some of the schools she has visited, told her to wait till admission is over to consider her request as others literally have no listening ear as she is shunned off at the gate by the watchman.

“Nilienda shule ingine hapa Nairobi wakaniambia ningoje admission iishe ndio niangalie. Shule ingine hata hawakuniskiza, watchman hakuniruhusu niingie, aliniambia hakuna chance.”

At Kisumu Girls, Enriqa has until Monday to admit her sister failure to which her chance will be given to another student.
