Earlier today, Kisumu Governor Prof. Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o took to social media to protest high flight charges by Safari Link.

 

The Governor expressed his shock of having to part with Kshs. 19,000 for a flight from Nairobi to Kisumu consequently instructing his staff not to use Safari Link for any of their trip effective today.

 

 

“I am issuing this statement to protest the excessively high flight charges by SAFARILINK. In view of this, I have instructed the staff of the County Government of Kisumu not to use Safari Link for any trip, from today, 9th February, 2023,” the Governor noted while issuing an official complaint letter
In response, Safari Link told the Governor that their flights to Kisumu range from Ksh. 5,500 to Kshs. 19,000 and the earlier one books the cheaper it is.
“Our fares to Kisumu are in the price range of Ksh. 5,500 to Kshs. 19,000 so the earlier one books the cheaper the fare,” read response letter from Safarilink.
The Privately owned travel company also attributed the high charges to its attempt to recover from effects of Covid-19 Pandemic without any support from the Government.
They also highlighted their support to Kisumu County Government which according them is unfortunate the Governor seem not to recognise. They however promise to continue supporting Kisumu County with Regular flights.
