Kenyan gospel musician, professional teacher and mother of three was on Saturday honoured at St Andrews PCEA church in Nairobi.

 

The event organized by Larry Liza, was to honour and recognize the woman of God Mary Atieno Ominde who has stood in gospel industry for more than four decades.

 

The CRE teacher at Buruburu girls started her music career in 1979 and some of her best known songs include: Adam na Eva, Sodoma na Gomorrah amongst many.

 

Since her entry into music career, Ms Atieno has released more than 12 music albums and one of her latest Baraka Zinanifuata is rocking the media airwaves.

 

Kenyan gospel artist Larry Liza organized the event to recognize the legendary for her outstanding prowess enigma in the art and nurturing many current gospel musicians.

 

Dr. Sarah K, Esther Wahome and Tanzanian legendary Faustin Munish are sample of musician who graced the event showering blessings, playing Mary’s Songs and giving tribute to her astounding values in music.

 

Dr. Sarah K praised Mary Atieno as a woman of God who have blessed them and being impactful to their lives as gospel artists.

 

“She has stood the test of times, blessed us through her relevance and powerful songs with authentic voice. This woman of God deserves more than just our support” Dr. Sarah K said.

 

The ” I made it through” hitmaker further urged congregants to subscribe to Mary’s You Tube channel and support her ministry.

 

Ruth Matete another gospel artist and preacher reminisced the golden days when her father introduced her to the church Mary Atieno was attending.

 

She said in 1994, she saw her father and Mary’s team releasing many songs and her father being one of the guitarist in the team.

 

My father was in the choir and was playing the guitar for her alongside my Uncle Noah Adams Amunga.

 

” I saw them record the numerous songs with the legend among them being Adam na Eva.

 

” She is such a powerhouse. An anointed woman of God” said Ruth Matete.

 

Ms Mary Atieno Ominde born visually impaired, pursued her degree in Education majoring in English and Literature but while teaching the subject , she says it became difficult for her to teach since set books had not been produced in braille Machines.

 

As the case, she wrote a letter to TSC which aided her and changed the subject to CRE. Currently, she teaches Christian Religious Education at Buruburu Girls.
