Government Distributes 95 Million Condoms To Beat STDs During Valentines Day
As Gen – Z lays down plans for valentines day, an Asian country has decided to catch the warm as an early bird ahead of 14th of February.
To prevent the increase of early pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases among the teen and unmarried youth, the government of Thailand has released 95 Million Condoms to its citizens.
People having universal healthcare cards are eligible to receive free 10 condoms per week from any pharmacy and government health facility for one year as said by the government spokesperson, Ms Rachada Dhnadirek.
The condoms which are now available in four sizes, citizens will also receive lubricating jelly alongside them. To those without gold cards/ universal healthcare cards, will use their IDs in any pharmacy around or health facility and get the condoms.
“The campaign to give out free condoms to gold-card holders will help prevent diseases and promote public health,” Ms Rachada said on 1st, February 2023.
Gold cards which are also called universal healthcare cards, Ms Rachada says for those who do not have them, it will be also awake up call for them to register and promote public health in the country.
In 2021, girls age 15- 19 according to Thailand’s Ministry of Health report, thousands of them were reported pregnant and infected with STDs.
In 2022, Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, Syphilis and HIV &AIDs were recorded to be on high rate among the youth 22-24 years of age, Gonorrhea and Syphilis leading the case.
Due to the reasons, the government has done an early preparations to its citizens by releasing 95 million condoms ahead of valentines day.
Further, according to Ms Rachada, the young, 15-24 are mostly active around Valentines Day prompting to increase in school dropout among them.
This has for more than 2 years led to moral degradation and poor performance in schools among boys and girls.
