A Scalpel Left In Woman’s Womb 11Years Ago During C-Section, Removed
A scalpel blade that was left in a woman’s womb during a C-section has been removed.
According to the woman, Felistarh Nafula, the blade was left inside her womb in 2012, 11 years after doctors from a Kitale hospital allegedly forgot it during operation.
Nafula, 36, went under the knife on Thursday, February 2, at the Maragua Level 4 Hospital in Murang’a County where a team of doctors removed the scalpel which was unknowingly forgotten in her uterus 11 years ago.
Reports indicated that the blade was lodged between her uterus and small intestines and it has been the reason she could not conceive another child since delivering her first child at the Kitale District Hospital.
Dr, Kairu Kimende, The Maragua Level 4 medical superintendent, said the blade had blocked the uterus thus causing difficulties in conceiving.
Nafula would later revealed that since delivering her firstborn in 2012, she started experiencing challenges such as pain around the abdomen and passing out.
She was constantly in and out of hospitals seeking treatment and answers for reasons why she could not bear another child and it is until an X-ray was done in a Thika hospital that it emerged that she had the scalpel inside her body.
“My Heart Aches” Nafula narrated that her difficulties with conceiving drove a wedge between her and her husband who thought she was deliberately avoiding having another child.
The couple is now seeking justice and wants the government to take action against the doctors who did her c-section in 2012 and left the blade in her womb.
