Baby Sagini Case:Murder Charges Dropped, Suspects Face New Accounts

The Office Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has made changes  in the case of Baby Sagini, a boy who had both of his eyes gouged out last year.

The charges against three family members have been dropped from attempted murder to grievous bodily harm, due to a lack of enough evidence.

The three suspects, Pacifica Nyakerario, Alex Ochogo, and Rael Nyakerario, entered a plea of not guilty when the case was first mentioned in December 2022.

The prosecution had previously told the court that the three colluded in gouging out Sagini’s eyes, resulting in permanent disability.

The prosecution had accused the three of unlawfully attempting to cause the death of Brighton Junior Sagini by gouging out both of his eyes, contrary to Section 220 of the Penal Code.

The trio was accused of attempting to cause the minor’s death between December 13 and December 1, 2022, at Ikuruma location in Kisii County.

The pre-trial hearing of the case is set for March 2, and the suspects are expected to appear in court to face the charges of grievous bodily harm.
