Woman Loses Everything After Quitting Marriage

Elizabeth Kea 40-year-old and a mother of four in Kilifi county, is struggling to support herself financially.

In 2022, she parted ways with her  husband , and she left with nothing.

Elizabeth says they have been married for ten years but all the property they acquired together were registered under the husband’s name

“When you work on something for 10 years and lose it all at the blink of an eye, it’s devastating. I don’t have money. I’m not as rich as my husband . Where do I start and how do I start?”

She did not have her name on any of the property they acquired during the marriage because she always agreed to what the husband suggested

On Friday January 7,2023 , Supreme Court ruled out that spouses are not automatically entitled to a 50/50 share of the matrimonial property during dissolution of a marriage and partners are expected to prove their contribution to determine percentage available for them.
