Home » White Card Makes First Appearance In Football History

Unlike Yellow Card and Red Card, a new card has made history in football for making its first appearance.

On a Weekend, a Portuguese referee Catarina Campos used a White Card in a soccer battle between Sporting Lisbon and Benfica in Lisbon.

The referee used the card in the women’s cup clash at Lisbon after someone in the stands had fallen ill, and medical staff from both teams quickly went to help.

The move by the referee received a warm reception from the crowd in the field with many applauding the decision.

Portugal introduced the white card to promote the ethical value in sports after for long, yellow card and red card being used for misconduct.

The Portuguese Football Federation adopted the white card use which the referee Catarina Campos used for the first time in sports history, to appreciate an ethical value done by the medical practitioners.

The card is shown to recognize a fair play which depicts good behavior and sportsmanship in the field. Ironically, the card is only used in Portugal.

The yellow card and red card were introduced in football during the 1970 World Cup to reduce fouls, rough game and general football misconduct.

They’re widely known for punishments but now in Portugal, the white card does the contrary. It’s to appreciate; an extra time, humanity actions, football creatives among other ethical values in sports.

Would other nations and football federations adopt the white card introduction in sports? How would EPL and other international leagues look like in case the card is adopted?
