Kagame’s Son Joins Presidential Elite Security Guard

President Paul Kagame’s son Ian Kagame has joined Rwanda’s elite presidential security team that
protects the Head of State.

Ian’s photos alongside other members of the Rwanda Defence Forces first emerged during a
National prayer breakfast in Kigali on Sunday 15 th Jan 2023.He was donning a black suit and a necktie with a talk back gadget on his ears.

This comes barely three months after graduating from Rwandan Army Academy as a cadet officer.

Last August, Ian was commissioned to the rank of a second lieutenant during a graduation ceremony
at the prestigious Royal Military Academy in Sandhurst UK. He joined the college in 2021.

President Kagame and first lady Jeannette Nyiramongi Kagame attended the ceremony.

“Such a proud moment. Congratulations Ian, thank you for the joy you brought us, this ceremony
was one for the books,” Jeannette wrote after the graduation.

Being, a highly trained officer, the third born son, Ian is tasked with ensuring the safety of the
country’s top in command.

Rwanda’s Defence Forces comprises of  the High Command Council of the RDF, General Staff of the RDF, Rwandan
Land Force, Rwandan Air Force, Individual units and the Army Band of the RDF.
