Atheists Call for Deregistration of Apostle Ng'ang'a's Church Over Assaults

Atheists in Kenya Society have backed Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma over a call for the government to deregister Apostle James Maina Ng’ang’a’s church after he assaulted a member.

Harrison Mumia, the President of Atheists in Kenya, said Apostle Ng’ang’a’s ill-manners are uncalled for, and he should be arrested and face the law for assaulting a member of his worship center.

Mumia also requested the public to help him gain access to the victim assaulted by Apostle Ng’ang’a to prevent more cases of assaults from the preacher. Additionally, he urged the Registrar of Societies of Kenya to deregister the Neno Evangelism Centre.

“The Atheists in Kenya Society intends to submit a formal complaint to the Registrar of Societies concerning Neno Evangelism ministries. It’s unacceptable for religious leaders to physically assault members of their congregation without facing consequences.“ Harrison Mumia, President, Atheists in Kenya Society, said in a statement.

In his statement, Hon. Peter Kaluma, Homa Bay Town MP, had called out the vocal preacher over assaults. The lawmaker urged the assault victim to report Apostle Ng’ang’a to the police.

“Apostle James Maina Ng’ang’a must be arrested, prosecuted, and jailed before worse happens at Neno Evangelism. Whoever knows the guy he assaulted in the video or any of the worshippers he has ever assaulted should report to the nearest Police Station or contact me immediately for urgent action. The Registrar of Societies should deregister this “church” with immediate effect”, Hon. Peter Kaluma said.

In the viral clip that caused a buzz on social media, Apostle James Maina Ng’ang’a was filmed in a church assaulting a member after he found him dozing off during a sermon. The preacher said people are not allowed to doze when he is preaching.
