“Mtaachana”: Lady Advises Unmarried Women Not to Eat Chicken at Their In-laws
Chichi says any unmarried woman or unmarried man who eats chicken at his/her in-laws attracts a bad omen/ screengrab.
Chichi Eliza, a Kenyan lady has cautioned young unmarried women dating Luhya men not to eat chicken at their in-laws.
Taking to her TikTok account, she explained that eating a chicken at the in-laws for the first time before marriage brings a bad omen.
The lady stated that any woman who dared to eat chicken served at the Luhya in-laws on her first date didn’t last in her relationship.

She added that most in-laws use the trick to split the young woman/man from her Luhya boyfriend or girlfriend if they don’t love her or him.
“Kama umeolewa na Mluhya au unataka kuolewa na Mluhya, siku yenye utapelekwa kwa akina kijana, tafadhali, usile kuku kwa kina kijana the first day. Usijaribu kula kuku hiyo siku.
“Kama wewe ni msichana na wataanzia kwenu, tafadhali ambia mama yako au shangazi zako wenye watakuwa hiyo siku wasijaribu kumpikia mume wako kuku. Unajua ni kwa nini? Hiyo ina maanisha hatukutaki.” Chichi warned young women and men with partners from Luhya land.
“Ukienda kwa kina dem au kwa kina boy for the first time na ukule, utaenda ukienda. Your marriage or relationship won’t last.” She added.
On her page, a section of fans agreed with her and testified that the tradition not only exists among the Luhya people but also in the Kamba, Abagusii and the Ameru community.
