“I’ll Miss His Wise Counsel”: Fred Obachi Mourns Mzee Mbotela As a Teacher of Many


Fred Obachi Machokaa, a legendary radio guru has mourned his fellow veteran journalist Mzee Leonard Mambo Mbotela as a teacher who mentored many in the media industry.

 

Speaking in his show dubbed- Roga Roga on Radio Citizen, Obachi shared that he was hurt after his friend was announced dead.

Mr. Obachi shared that he met the late Mbotela in 1976 at Voice of Kenya, currently KBC where they used to be colleagues. He narrated that his show Sanyo Juu Sanyo Tops used to be aired on the Radio before Mbotela’s Je, Huu Ni Uungwana?

 

He added that before he met the late Mbotela, he used to dream and desire to be like him in the media industry alongside other veteran journalists, the late Said Omari Kasongo, Job Isaac Mwamto, and Mzee Stephen Kikumu.

Further, the Roga Roga Show host revealed that before Mbotela’s demise, the Association of Professional Broadcasters agreed in 2024 that they would be celebrating the late’s birthday remarkably for the legacy he had left in Kenya’s media industry.

The veteran radio guru rested on Friday morning at the age of 85 years, leaving behind his wife Alice Mwikali and three children Jimmy, Aida and George.
