“You Cleared My Three Months Rent”:Rita Tinina’s Friend Breaks Down
Rita Tinina stepped in to assist Violet, who was still hustling for a job at the time.
Ahead of the burial of the late TV journalist Rita Tinina, friends and former colleagues continue to offer heartfelt tributes in remembrance of her life. Among them is Violet Otindo, a close friend and former college mate of Rita. Violet shared a touching anecdote highlighting Rita’s kindness and generosity.
She recounted a time when she was struggling to pay rent after graduating from the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication (KIMC) and was at risk of eviction due to three months of arrears. Despite her own challenges, Rita stepped in to assist Violet, who was still hustling for a job at the time.
With Rita’s support, Violet was able to clear her rent arrears, amounting to Ksh 24,000. “Back then, Ksh 24,000 was a lot of money. ‘ I remember once I was still tarmacking and had rent arrears for three months… my house was being locked up by the landlord; you took a whopping Sh24,000 (this was a lot of money then) and paid my rent,” wrote Violet

She described Rita as a kind-hearted woman and focused. She held her hand when she came to the city from the village to pursue her education at KIMC College in South B.
Their friendship lasted for years even after leaving college. ”Though Rita may be absent from our sight, she will forever remain present in our hearts, cherished and remembered with love,” she mourned.

Rita Tinina was found dead in her house and it would later be confirmed that the TV queen died of acute Pneumonia.
