The story of Athanas Mbele, a Kenya banker turned philanthropist is undoubtedly one to inspire many and give them every reason to sail on despite facing a myriad of challenges.

Born in the hills of Taita, Athanas did not have a smooth life like most children in his area.

His story, started in Mwafunja village, in Werugha where he had to be raised by his ”second mother” after he was separated from his biological mother at only three months.

Life went on well for the author, albeit with a series of misfortunes which multiplied even as he grew older.

Mideyah Digital understands Mbele was diagnosed with kidney failure years later, something that played a major role in making his reunion with his long-lost mother possible.

The philanthropist who works as a banker at UBA Bank, narrated how his mother traced him and offered to donate her kidney for him, an occurrence that outrightly confirmed her ultimate sacrifice of love and affection to him.

According to Mbele, he felt abandoned and rejected without the presence of his father and mother before the latter finally came through for him and his life.

He disclosed that his childhood was not rosy as he grew up with Rejection Syndrome but later dealt with it.

“I cannot fully express the gratitude and honour to my mother who has made such a sacrifice and truly her love is superior. The debt between a child and her mother could never be repaid, like running a foot race against someone fifteen miles ahead of you,” Mbele stated.

Unlike many people, Mbele’s quandaries did not end with his kidney transplant.

The COVID-19 pandemic did not spare him as it tore into his financial well-being, rendering him broke, with auctioneers on his case on end.

In a bid to bounce back, the revered author decided to do business with politicians from his native land who made matters even worse.

Mbele disclosed how he was shortchanged by several politicians as he engaged with his area county government, something that sunk him into depression.

However, he chose to rise and come out stronger instead of letting the challenges kill his dream of changing the lives of many vulnerable members of society.

It is because of that particular reason that Mbele thought it wise to encourage the world with his story through his book ”The Perfect Storm”.
