Harambee Stars Coach Engin Firat Has Revealed Why Austin Odhiambo Was Left Out Of National Team

As Harambee Stars Head Coach Engin Firat received backlashes from netizens and Kenyan football fans who questioned Firat following the omission of Gor Mahia FC creative midfielder Austin Odhiambo from national team call up, the Turkish coach promised to explain why Odhiambo was left out of national team ahead of Four nation tournament in Malawi.

During today’s press conference ahead of trip to Lilongwe, Malawi for the tournament, Firat has now disclosed reason why he chose to leave Austin Odhiambo out of the squad. “Austin asked for permission to leave the team’s camp briefly ahead of the friendly against South Sudan in September last year to sort an important matter, which was granted only for him to later say he was diagnosed with malaria and would therefore not to return to camp,” “He would later feature for Gor Mahia in a friendly against Mathare United and scored.” Engin Firat said.

Firat said Austin Odhiambo broke the discipline code after he missed out on the team that played Russia last year September. Odhiambo failed to travel with the team to Qatar due to VISA issues where he decided to leave the camp and also failed to show up for the match against South Sudan feigning illness.
