Kenya U-20 Coach Explains Why Aldrine Kibet, Amos Wanjala And Louis Ingavi Will Miss Four Nations Tournament

Kenya Rising stars coach Salim Babu has outlined the reason why three of key players for U-20 team will be unavailable ahead of Four Nations Tournament set to be held in Lilongwe, Malawi. The Spain-based duo Aldrine Kibet and Amos Wanjala as well as forward Louis Ingavi who is based in the United States will be absent for national duty.

The trio had been included in Rising Stars provisional squad by coach Salim Babu but has now revealed that they will not be able to turn up for the tournament. Speaking to the press on Monday, Babu said, “They are out, and we also have other players whom we want to give chances. Those three are already known. Having featured in Kisumu, everyone knows how they play.”

The attacking midfielder Aldrine Kibet and defender Wanjala who both train Spain’s Nastic Sports Academy in Spain while striker Louis Ingavi is sharpening his skills at US-based Montverde Academy. “There is another group coming through and if they can be exposed, then it will be easy to move as a team. Kenya has many young players and I think in 2027, everything will be okay.” Babu added.

Amos Wanjala was set to miss out the tournament after his Spanish club, Gimnastic de Tarragona, requested for his continued presence as they currently stand third in the table and are actively pursuing promotion, with nine games left in the season.

However, Salim Babu has expressed his confidence with the available squad saying they had a three-week training with the team, and he will make sure they win the Semi-Finals and the Finals. “Our target is to win those two games because it was the semi-final and final, now it is a round robin format,” “As a technical bench, we had a conversation with the players, and we believe everything is right because this is a team we have had from the U18. “We have had nearly three weeks in Kisumu and another week in Nairobi, so I think we are ready based on how we have trained.”

The tournament kicks off this Friday 22nd March as the Rising Stars will play Zimbabwe U-20 after Zambia withdrew from the tournament following political interest between Zambia and Malawi.
