Eldoret-based musician Ricc Berry has called for the disbandment of the now embattled MCSK following the misappropriation or rather the mismanagement of artists’ royalties.

This is after the Music Copyrights Society of Kenya sent him peanuts in the name of his music royalties.

Speaking during an interview with an Eldoret online media scribe, Ricc Berry disclosed that he is disappointed with the government-run CMO for sending him KSh 637 as his royalties for its first quota.

According to the Pishori crooner, MCSK has been performing poorly compared to other private entities which have been remitting quite a substantial amount of money as royalties for registered artists.

“Boomplay and other private entities are paying well and honestly but there are other people like MCSK who have not been fair to artists. They are paying artists peanuts. Personally, I got KSh 637 for this first quota. This is not fair because artists invest in their music, and spend a lot of money only to get peanuts.” Ricc said.

He reiterated that things at MCSK cannot be ironed out therefore it should just be disbanded and a new management team be elected to run it.

“That thing should be disbanded.” He added.

It is important to note that Ricc Berry is not the only artist who has so far complained about the royalties they received from MCSK.

From Kenya’s top earner, Otile Brown, to Nonini who has been championing the disbandment of MCSK, a multitude of artists have recently been calling for transparency in the entity.

Just recently, Mideyah Digital reported that Otile Brown had called for the arrest of MCSK officials after it emerged the body could not account for about KSh 56 million meant for artists’ royalties.

The musician disclosed that he was shocked to learn that officials at MCSK misappropriated over KSh 56 million that had been collected and was meant to be distributed amongst Kenyan creatives but ended up in people’s pockets.

According to the Regina hitmaker, it is so unfortunate that police and the government, in general, folded their hands and watched as MCSK’s officials ‘stole’ the funds.

Speaking during an interview with TV47, the star disclosed that he is yet to make official communication with MCSK over the issue but he is working on dealing with the issue legally.

According to Otile, whatever MCSK did was wrong but he will get to the bottom of it.

“It is funny how the government watched as these people stole the money. Whatever they did was not right. I have not yet communicated with MCSK people but plans are underway to deal with them privately.” Otile said.

Otile Brown insisted that he initially called out MCSK online just to put them on alert and not to seek pity from the public.
