Marathon World record holder late Kelvin Kiptum’s wife Asenath Rotich delivered a heartbreaking tribute to her husband during his burial service held in Chepkorio in Elgeyo Marakwet county. Asenath revealed their wedding plans in April this year, a dream that will now remain unaccomplished.

While full of tears, Asenath Rotich revealed the depth of love they shared and the pain she is experiencing for the loss. In her emotional speech, Asenath eulogized her husband as a gentleman, “My dear love, I can’t learn how to say goodbye to you with weak fingers and pain in my heart. It’s unbelievable that today I’ve learned to stay with our beloved kids without you coming home again”

The Burial service was held in Elgeyo Marakwet county, attended by thousands of Kenyans, friends, Athletes, government top leaders led by President Willliam Ruto as well as World Athletics president Sebastian Coe.

Kelvin Kiptum passed away on Sunday of 11th February 2024 along Eldoret-Kaptagat road through an road accident that also claimed the life of his Rwandese coach Gervais Hakizimana who was laid to rest on Wednesday, 21st of February in Kigali Rwanda. Hakizimana’s body was flown to Kigali last Saturday with his family, led by his wife Joan Chelimo.

Asenath Rotich did not just mourn his husband, she showed  courage and commitment as she will be the mother and father of the family, “I’ve cried until no more… I will miss you and your love. I promise to gather my strength for the sake of our children.” Asenath said.

The legendary marathoner has been laid to rest today at his new home in Naiberi in Uasin Gishu where he had bought a land with a plan to construct a new house before he tragically passed away. The Government of Kenya built a house and fully furnished it for Kiptum’s family before his burial.
