Tony Kwalanda, a media personality has shared what led to the breakup with Joyce Maina after formalising their relationship with their parents.
Speaking to Mkamburi Chigogo on Radio 47, Kwalanda said he wished to see their relationship reach marriage but died in a nastic way leaving each other bitter on social media.
The former Switch TV sports journalist revealed that what led to their early break up was the norm of naming children. He claimed there was a time he was travelling with Joyce and initiated a chat about child naming.

During the talk, he spotted one red flag that he couldn’t accommodate as a Luhya man who takes heed of their traditional cultures. According to Kwalanda, Joyce wanted that when she gives birth, she’s the one to name the children and not Kwalanda.
“Mimi ndiye carrier. Mimi ndiye nakubebea mimba. Unidunge mimba alafu useme kwamba unataka upatie watoto jina? Nitamwita jina langu upende usipende” Joyce told Kwalanda.
The Luhya man on his side responded by pointing out some of Kabras cultures that prohibit a woman from doing certain things and things a man should do when married.

“Unajua sisi kwa kimila yetu sisi Wakabras, sisi wanaume ndio tunapatia watoto majina” he told her.
That raised another controversial sentiment from her by alleging when pregnant, she would not go to the kitchen to prepare any meal. Her husband will be the one in charge of preparing food.
“Nikiwa na mimba utakuja kukata vitunguu. Sitapika” Kwalanda quoted Joyce.

About that, he spotted another red flag as a man. According to him, it was not that he hated preparing food but their cultures and traditions, have certain limits set on when a man may cook and not.
Just to highlight but a few, the red flags he spotted from Joyce made him end their relationship in March 2021 without caring about what the public and family members would say.
