Ilkay Gundogan Wife Opens Up On Challenges Of Being A Footballer’s Wife
Former Manchester City captain and Germany international Ilkay Gundogan wife Sarah has opened up on difficulties she faces on a daily basis for being a footballer’s wife as the couple welcomed their first child together last year.
High-profile footballers’ wives and girlfriends usually receive a lot of hate mostly from their fellow women for obvious reasons. Despite getting all the attention around the globe they face unforeseen challenges as the Ilkay Gundogan’s wife Sarah highlights some of them she faces along the way.
The former TV star in an interview recently opened up about what it takes to be the wife of a high-profile player. She admits having to make some huge sacrifices, including laying aside her own dreams and ambition to focus on her marriage and parenthood. She revealed that unlike majority believe, being a wife or girlfriend of a footballer is not a bed of roses but comes with a lot of responsibility.

Sarah Gundogan said, “As a wife sometimes you are on the side. The people knew me before as a media star but when I became a wife, there is the tendency of the press to show wives of players in a certain way and it’s like we have to fit this cliche.”
She added: “It’s tough (to balance everything), because I have given up so much. The hard part is always people tend to imagine we have everything because we are with this successful man. Sarah also revealed that she had to turn down several job opportunities in Italy after welcoming their firstborn son.
Sarah went on to say, “But a successful man has his own career. He is successful. It doesn’t bring success to you. Looking at yourself in the mirror and feeling like I’m doing something is a much nicer feeling than just having a lifestyle because of someone else.
The Tv star and model is set to make a comeback to the screens as she will be in the most anticipated reality Tv show dubbed ‘Married to the Game’, that will also feature former Manchester City and Algeria winger Riyad Mahrez’s wife Taylor Ward.
