Egypt Midfielder Emam Ashour Suffers Head Injury After Trying Backflip During Training In Ivory Coast

Backflips is part of football celebrations done by players when they score goals for their teams. Only few players stage the backflip celebrations with many admiring the celebration but can’t manage to do it.
In this year’s African Cup of Nations (AFCON), we witnessed several players doing the backflip celebrations.

Egypt who advanced to the round of 16 in AFCON after registering Zero wins and three draws, lost their key player Mohamed Salah through a thigh injury in their 2-2 draw against Ghana. The Pharaohs have yet lost another important player as they head to the round of 16 with Emam Ashour suffering a head injury and concussion in training.
According to several media reports, Ashour attempted a backflip in training on Wednesday. However, the backflip went wrong, and the 25-year-old suffered a serious head injury.

On Thursday, the Egypt and Al Ahly SC central midfielder took to his Instagram stories and wrote, “Thank God for everything. I was between life and death, and I saw things I wouldn’t wish on anyone else.”
After the life-threatening scenario, Ashour also thanked the people who were around him, “I thank everyone who supported me yesterday, the team doctors, players, and the administrative staff.” Although the player neither confirmed the reports of the backflip nor how bad the injury was.

Ashour has since been discharged from hospital but will not play in the match against DR Congo tomorrow for the AFCON round of 16. Given that Egypt advanced to the Quarterfinals, Ashour will apparently be fit for selection.
Ashour’s absenteeism is a big loss to Egypt side as they already miss two of their key players, captain Mohamed Salah and their first-choice goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shennawy all through injuries. The Pharaohs will be looking to reach the AFCON Finals for the second time in a row.
