Faith Chepngetich Kipyegon is a Kenyan-born short and long-distance runner. She’s now the current world record holder for 1500M and 5000M at the 2023 World Athletics Championship.

The 30-year-old mother of one, started her marathon career back in 2010 at the age of 16. She participated in the World cross country championship held in Poland where she finished in fourth place in women’s junior race.

In 2015, 21-year-old Faith Kipyegon represented Kenya in Beijing World Championship where she finished second in 1500M race winning a silver medal for Kenya. The following year 2016 Kipyegon represented the country in Rio De Janeiro Olympics where she won a gold medal which boosted her morale to the 2017 World Championship held in London where she won a gold medal after finishing first in the 1500m race.

Faith Kipyegon took a break from athletics in 2018 after getting pregnant to her firstborn daughter Alyn. She resumed his marathon career in 2019 when she participated in the World Championship held in Doha, Qatar where she finished in the second position winning herself a silver medal.

In 2020, she again represented Kenya in Olympic games held in Tokyo, Japan and won a gold medal for Kenya in 1500m race. After that, Kipyegon took another break and returned on track in 2022 where she participated in Eugene World championships winning again a gold medal in 1500m race.

2023 was Faith Kipyegon’s best year per se. She broke World record in 2023 World Championship marathon held in Budapest Hungary setting new world record in 1500m after clocking 3:49:11 as well as setting new world record in 5000m race in World Championship held in Monaco after clocking 4:07:64.

At the age of 30, Faith Kipyegon has won 6 Gold medals and 2 silver medals. Last year she was awarded 5 million Kenya shillings and a house worth 6 million by President William Ruto at statehouse alongside Kenyan sprinter Ferdinand Omanyala.
