Mandera: Police Officer Killed, Several Others Injured As Donkey Cart Carrying IEDs Explodes

A cop has died and two others injured after an Improvised Explosive Device that had been tied to a donkey cart exploded at the cross border between Bula Hawa and Mandera in Mandera county.
According to police, two donkeys carrying luggage from Somalia were guided towards the border where the IED went off killing the cop manning the border.
Police said the deceased died on the spot while the two were rushed to hospital with serious injuries.

Citizen Digital reported that the IED in the donkey cart went off after it was stopped for the usual inspection of illegal goods.
A guide had guided the donkeys to the checkpoint.

The incident occurred on Thursday, January 18, at around 9.50 AM.

Security officers’ reports indicated that the IEDs were remotely controlled by al-Shabaab militants.
Reports indicate that the donkeys were pushing a cart carrying fuel products.
The incident caused tension in the area experiencing fewer attacks recently, thanks to efforts by security agents.
Security administration disclosed that they have thwarted several attacks of planned attacks in North Eastern and the whole country at large.
