Nigerian President Suspends Poverty Minister Over Corruption

Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has suspended poverty minister after pumping ministry money into her personal bank account.

 

It’s reported Ms Betta Edu, 37, had been requested to cash out certain money from her ministry for Humanitarian and Poverty Alleviation by the president but never took any action.

 

According to her Ministry’s senior accountant, there were no money in the ministry to be cashed out as per the president’s order resulting to Betta’s fall for president’s sharp axe.

According to local media outlets’ reports, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission probed into the matter and found out Betta had pumped 585M Naira ( Ksh 101M ) to a private bank account.

 

Following the case, on Monday morning, President Tinubu showed the public his journey to revive Africa’s economic vision he promised citizens after acquiring Nigeria’s presidency by suspending Betta over corruption.

 

Through his spokesperson Ajuri Ngelale, the president directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to conduct a thorough investigation into all aspects of the financial transactions” involving the ministry and “one or more agencies thereunder”.

Last week, Tinubu suspended the head of the social investment fund agency Halima Shehu over alleged corruption.

 

She was arrested and released on bail, according to a local media.
