Couple Arrested For Faking Kidnap To Raise School Fees
The couple in Jinja City was arrested for faking a kidnap and asking for a ransom
Kiira Region police have in custody a couple who faked the wife’s kidnap and asked for a ransom.
According to reports Ngobi Micheal, a resident of Buwagi cell, in Budondo ward, in Northern division, in Jinja city made a report to police about his wife Namugera Faridah being kidnapped by unknown persons on her way to antenatal care at Budondo Health Center IV.
Ngobi stated that Namugera has been dragged and thrown in a Noah car and sped off. He further claimed that she had been taken to Jami Village, Budaka District and using her mobile phone, the assailants called and asked him for a ransom of Ksh 82K to be released.
However , Ngobi’s statements begun to change and were contradicted by witnesses who claimed to have spotted Namugera boarding a taxi at Amber Court stage, Jinja City and later jumping on a boda boda that whisked her away along Jinja-Iganga highway.

Police were able to collect Ksh. 57K and together with the Flying Squad and senior trackers, Namugera was confirmed to be in Namulesa ward located in the Northern division, Jinja city.
James Mubi, the Kiira regional police spokesperson confirmed Namugera’s arrest from her friend’s house. The couple is currently detained at Buwenge central police station, where they are facing three charges including causing tension in the public, faking kidnap, and providing police with misleading information.
The duo later confessed to the crimes and apologized claiming that, they only faked the kidnap to raise school fees for their four children.
