Police authorities in Ntungamo District are investigating a case against a 110-year-old who allegedly stabbed his 109-year-old wife for denying him conjugal rights.

According to police reports, the suspect identified as Babiha Dominic is accused of murdering Bakasisa Costansio with a sickle-shaped knife in their marital home in Kahunga Parish at around 7 AM over the weekend.

“It is alleged that at around 8pm on December 14, the deceased had turned down his husband’s request to join him in bed because she was feeling weak and had a cough, and that the two peasants went to sleep in separate rooms with the deceased moving in with her two great grandchildren,” Rwizi region police spokesperson Kasasira Samson said.

Kasasira further noted that the suspect on Friday morning made an alarm that got his granddaughter running to check what the problem was. On entering, she noticed the suspect carrying a billhook, ordering her out of the house.

He then proceeded to stab his wife multiple times which compelled the grandchild to run out and call the neighbors for help.

When the neighbors arrived, they found Bakasisa lying dead in a pool of blood. Babiha had locked himself in the other room forcing the locals to break down the door. He was found lying unconscious after consuming contents in a bottle of agro chemical beside him.

Police visited the area, concealed off the crime scene and collected the murder weapon as exhibit.

It is said that the married couple stayed in the same house but slept in different rooms. Police noted that although the reason behind the gruesome murder was believed to be that the suspect was denied conjugal rights, investigations into the murder were still ongoing.

“Police strongly condemns all acts of violence and encourages members of the public to always look for non-violent means to resolve misunderstandings or seek help from relevant authorities,” Kasasira revealed.
