"Don't Cut My Hair": Rastaman’s Demands On His Burial Puzzles Many

Mourners were left astonished by the strict will left behind by a Rastafarian which insisted he should be buried in a his belief regardless of his Muslim religious beliefs.

 

Rasta Isa Mukasa Ssemakula 53, was born in a staunch Muslim family by Hajji Katende Siraje, a resident of Kasana – Kasawo in Mukono district; where he was buried.

 

Among his last dying wishes, which his father was also aware about, the deceased willed not to be buried in a Muslim way and without a casket.

He ordered his grave to be dug up to 10ft and his body be carried by fellow Rastafarians. He also forbid people from cutting off his hair and wanted the press from a local TV station to capture the burial ceremony on camera and release it in the news and in their local newspaper.

 

Many family members tried to dispute the deceased’s death wishes but were stopped by Hajji Siraje who revealed that despite being a strong believer, his son had the right to be sent off in a way he wanted.

 

The deceased’s uncle Sserunjogi Abdu revealed that he was surprised that the Rastafarian crew kept peace all through the burial without using any drugs or alcohol, contrary to what they thought they’d do.

Rasta Jjuuko Munyenye, president of the RASTA COMMUNITY UGANDA (RCU) also noted that the Rastafarian community was a movement that believes in the cultural norms and follows the teachings of the late Bob Marley. He hailed the deceased who acted as the Secretary For Defense in the community for being a good advocate of peace amongst them.
