A 60-year-old man together with his daughter survived being lynched by the mob after they were caught red handed defrauding a teenager.

Residents of Katoogo Zone in Bwaise II lost their cool and slapped Nyanzi Pascal 60, and  Sandra Nankanja 40, for stealing from 16-year-old Akankwase Shakira money worth Ugsh. 100,000 that was meant for buying shoes.

According the victim, she was on her way to look for shoes when Nankanja interrupted her at the roadside. The con artist convinced her how she would take her to a nice shop which sells the best shoes at the cheaper price.

Having convinced her to follow her, Nankanja asked the teenager to give her the money saying the security guard at the shop they were going did not want people entering with bags apart from money in a nylon bag.

Akankwase gave the nylon bag containing money to the fraudster and midway, they handed her another nylon bag and when she checked, it contained papers. The victim then called for help from passersby who rushed to see what was happening.

The duo’s arrest came when a few locals made an alarm to alert neighbors after finding them arguing with the teenager who was asking for her money back. They were apprehended and taken to the chairman’s office where they first denied coercing Akankwase to give them the money.

They were then thoroughly searched and found with old newspapers, old socks and polythene bags that they use to wrap old papers and play tricks on people, making them believe it’s money.

The bitter residents were quick to beat up the culprits who had first denied stealing the money. They later pled guilty and asked locals to forgive them promising never to do it again.

The village defense Mwanje Abbey shielded the duo from being lynched as they escorted them to Kawempe police station.
