Two children who escaped from their parents’ home to look for plastic bottles in a pond bordering Kira Municipality and Butabika drowned and died on spot. The deceased were identified as Wambwa Ian 8, a top-class pupil at Elgon Primary School and Bwire Jethrow 11, a pupil at St. Stephen Luzira Primary School in Nakawa Division.

Bwire’s father, John Ouma also stated how he last saw his child at lunch time.

“After having lunch, I told him to wash the dishes and I went to rest. When the heavy rains started, I rushed outside to check on my son and see what he was up to but didn’t find him. After a few minutes, neighbors came to my door informing me of my child’s death,” he narrated.

The pond is said to be owned by Commissioner of police Asuman Mugyenyi and the residents called him out to see that they are covered up to prevent such incidents from happening again.

“It is so sad to lose two children in such a weird manner. I call upon parents to try so much and look out for their children especially during this time of the holidays,” the village chairperson Kaggwa Godfrey said.
