Kennedy Ochieng, a resident of Njiru, finds himself in trouble after allegedly issuing death threats to his mother-in-law, Mercy Murugi, during a heated argument at her residence on November 2.

Ochieng now faces charges under section 223 of the Penal Code for threatening to take the life of his mother-in-law.

Reports indicate that Ochieng engaged in a heated argument with his mother-in-law at her house, where he reportedly declared, “Wewe nitakuua na msichana wako”

Both the police and the Office of the Public Prosecutions have viewed these words as a credible threat to Murugi’s life.

The incident happened when Murugi returned home to find her son-in-law arguing with her daughter.

She tried to intervene, but things escalated as Ochieng allegedly hurled insults at her and forcibly removed her from the house after she questioned his presence at the house.

Ochieng continued to direct offensive language towards the complainant and her husband, asserting that he was not afraid of the police.

Ochieng and his wife had allegedly separated, with Ochieng attributing his troubled marriage to his mother-in-law.

During his hearing at the Makadara Law Courts, Ochieng denied the charges. He was later released on a bond of Ksh100K without the option of cash bail.

The trial is scheduled to begin on April 23, 2024 with key witnesses include Murugi’s two immediate neighbors, who reportedly witnessed the incident, as well as the investigating officer.
