In a shocking and heart-wrenching incident, a lightning strike claimed one life and left two others injured as it struck a tree, under which three women had sought shelter during a heavy evening downpour in Sotik Sub-county, Bomet.

 

According to the police, the three had taken shelter from the continuous downpour that had persisted in the area for the past four days.

 

A good Samaritan discovered the victims lying helpless in different directions and quickly raised an alarm, prompting the response of concerned members of the public.

The two survivors were transported to Kapkatet Hospital for their recovery, while the deceased was taken to the hospital’s morgue.

 

Sotik sub-county police boss, Andrew Muturi Mbogo, has appealed to relevant departments to install lightning arrestors in areas where such incidents are common, emphasizing the importance of people taking precautions during El Niño rains.
