Referee Severely Beaten By Football Fans Over Match Results

Police are investigating circumstances under which a referee was attacked and severely beaten by football fans for his decisions during the match.
Ssekabuya Fahad who was refereeing a match between UPDF and Express FC at Bombo Stadium which ended in a 1-1 draw.

The match was concluded successfully and Ssekabuya got in his car and set off for Kampala. It is said that Express FC fans who were contesting the result waited for the referee in Matugga and ambushed him in the middle of the road. They pulled him out of his car and beat him to pulp using big sticks and stones.
By the time responders rushed to the scene, the referee could barely stand, move or even talk. He was then rushed to Jokasy clinic for first aid.

The FUFA executive Committee has released a statement suspending all matches involving Express FC until the safety of referees is guaranteed. The team has also been ordered to cooperate with authorities to see that the culprits are apprehended.
The Uganda Football Referees Association (UFRA) also with immediate effect decided that all their members shall not be available for the matches involving the team.
