Mother Commits Suicide After Telling Her Children Goodbye

Shock waves filled the residents of Kawempe Division, Kampala City after they discovered that one of their own had committed suicide in her house.
Nakalanzi Sarah, a resident of Kilokole Village was found hanging off the roof with a string of cloth tied around her neck.
According to her children, the deceased woke up in a good mood and perfect health. She bid them farewell as they left for school.
“Before I left for school this morning, she offered to pray for me to pass my exams. She was well,” Ntale Axam, one of the deceased’s children stated.

When Ntale came back home in the middle of the day to collect school fees, he discovered his mother’s body and in shock, he alerted the neighbors who rushed to the scene.
“I knocked on the door and thought she would come out as usual but she did not. I called a friend from the neighborhood and when we peeped through the curtain, we saw her body hanging,” he said.
Neighbors cite mental illness could have driven the deceased to take her own life.
“She had been mentally unstable for close to two years but decided to lock herself inside her house all the time. I believe the loneliness drove her to suicide,” Amos Magunda, the village vice chairperson said.

Magunda condemned the act and revealed how the deceased was the second person in a space of one week to take his life after a 12-year-old.
Neighbors described the deceased as a down to earth person who always dedicated her Fridays to doing community work around her area of residence.
Kampala Metropolitan Deputy police spokesperson revealed that the police are currently investigating the matter.
“We want to confirm if it was really suicide and rule out possibilities of foul play. We could also establish the reason for her actions,” he said.
Police from Kawempe collected the dead body and transported it to Kawempe general hospital for postmortem.
