Panga-Wielding Mentally Ill Man Brutally Attacks Security Guard

Police are investigating circumstances under which an alleged mentally unstable man brutally attacked a Reserve Force security guard, almost killing him.
The victim identified as 50-year-old Mulema Jamadah stationed at Kibinge Coffee farmers’ bank had taken his brand-new motorcycle to a nearby garage in Kibinge, Bukomansimbi for service when the culprit only identified as Ssemwogerere who was moving with a panga started attacking him.
It is said that Mulema tried to defend himself while shooting bullets in the air to scare away Ssemwogerere but in vain. A stray bullet unfortunately hit one of the rescuers, Lubowa Twaha on the hand.
When other residents noticed the scuffle, they rushed to the scene, beating Ssemwogerere to stop him from killing the security guard. The two victims who were now in critical condition were rushed to Masaka referral Hospital for treatment.

Ssemwogerere was also handed over to the police who committed him to a psychiatric ward at the same hospital.
Namayanja Aisha, wife to Mulema amidst tears, revealed that the unfortunate news of her husband’s attack found her at home.

“I could not believe the news at first because he was well when I talked to him last evening and he promised he would come home after working overnight,” she said.
Residents who are now living in fear revealed that this was not the first time Ssemwogerere threatened to harm other people. They pleaded with the authorities to have him committed into a psychiatric hospital forever to avoid such incidents from happening again.
