"Johnny Yates doesn't live here" to escape from being arrested.

Johnny Yates and his door sign

Johnny Yates, 41, decided to fool police by posting a sign on his door that said, “Johnny Yates doesn’t live here” to escape from being arrested.

The Florida man who is wanted for aggravated assault, false imprisonment and involvement in a second-degree felony, placed the sign on his front door suggesting he does not live there.

“When the deputies arrived, they noticed a note written on a dry-erase board in front of a window that said, “Johnny Yates does NOT live here!! Gee…a dry-erase board never lied to us before—should we believe it?” Polk County PD said in a statement.

Police deployed surrender smoke(teargas) into the house and four people exited the home but the suspect was nowhere to be found.

According to the police, they remained undistracted, since they were aware that Yates was outside, prompting them to start interrogating his friends as they entered and left the residence.

After a thorough search with the help of the Canine Unit, Yates was found hiding in a modified chest of drawers.

“One of the worst things about being a cop is you always have to be open to the possibility that people are going to lie to you. No matter how sweet and innocent they seem,” continued the statement.
