Newcastle have confirmed the signing of Sandro Tonali for £55 million from AC Milan.

Tonali is the first player Newcastle has signed during the summer transfer window after agreeing to a five-year contract at St James’ Park. He was part of the AC Milan side that won the league in the 2021–2022 season.

He will help a revived Newcastle side that will play in the Champions League next season.

His signing will help ease the pressure on Brazil midfielders Bruno Guimares and Longstaff, who played most games last season.

Speaking after the official announcement, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe believes Tonali can help the club’s Champions League pursuit.

“He is an exceptional talent and has the mentality, physicality, and technical attributes to be a great fit for us. At 23, Sandro already has important experience as a key player in one of Europe’s top leagues and in the Champions League, as well as playing for his country.” He said.

Newcastle are also interested in signing Conor Gallagher from Chelsea.
