Mateo Kovacic Joins Manchester City From Chelsea

Chelsea announced yesterday that Croatian midfielder Mateo Kovacic has joined Manchester City on a four-year deal.

Kovacic joins the city on a £25 million initial deal with $5 million in add-ons. Kovacic will wear the number 8, which was left vacant by Ilkay Gundogan, who joined Barcelona. In the summer of 2018, Kovacic arrived at Stamford Bridge from Real Madrid, originally on a loan but later on a permanent basis. The 29-year-old Croatian international played 221 games for Chelsea and won four major championships during his time there, including his fourth Champions League at Pep Guardiola’s team’s expense in 2021.

Speaking after completing the move, Mateo Kovacic said he could not wait to get started at the club. “This is a brilliant move for me, and I cannot wait to get started with City.” Anyone who has watched this team under Pep knows how good they are; for me, they are the best in the world. The trophies they have won are clear for all to see, but they are also the best footballing side out there.” He said.
